Vaccinations
are what we receive from a Doctor to help us fight against the viruses and
diseases. There is an anti-vaccination movement starting because people are
starting to think vaccinations are more harmful than they are beneficial. Just
about every dangerous viruses/disease has a vaccination to help us become immune
to it, without these vaccinations viruses/diseases like smallpox, flu and
measles would have developed into several other strains and killed tons more
people. Yes some vaccinations can be dangerous for people who cannot get the
vaccination due to being too young or sick but the people who can get
vaccinated helps build a community that is immune and protects the people who
cannot get vaccinated.
Measles
use to be a very common virus before 1963 when the MMR vaccination began (Schoenstadt,
2013). According to Schoenstadt before the MMR vaccination the United States
had about three to four million cases and 450 people had died from the measles.
In 1990, twenty-seven years after the MMR vaccination started the reported
deaths from measles was only 64. That is a 386 decrease in deaths from measles
between 1963 and 1990. Measles are not complete gone but there is a big decease
in the disease. The few cases of measles that are in the US are said to come
from outside the US. I want to protect my kids from anything and everything I can, vaccinations will help them become immune to some viruses/diseases.
